Newspaper and comments

In this post I will write about how people comment and respond to other posts online, newspaperpost in particulary.

You can find many newspaper online, lokal news, national and international newspaper.
In my oppinion, this makes the youth read more newspaper. Most young people doesent take their time to buy a newsparer in its original form, they search it ut online and read the news they are interested in. The information they need is easily avalible and they can check news in a break at work, or whenever they need.

This is positive in many ways. We want the youngs to be interested and see whats going on in their own country and the world in generaly. In online newspaper people also have the opportunity to comment on the articles, to state pros ore cons. This way we can get a more two wayed comunication than in the ordinary newspapers.

In Olympic times, I have searched different newspaper online and looked for how their approach towards the participants has been. In the different articles it has been possible to comment and discuss the article in an open forum. The newspapers I’ve been searching are Swedish and Norwegian, and in both countries newspaper this was a possibility.

I was surprised over how many nonobjective comments one could find that so obviously has been written in anger and frustration. When you actually found one comment that was objective and informative you got quite impressed. These open forums seem to have no guidelines and this is something I would like to put focus on. In these forums it seems like everybody can spell their guts out and doesn’t have to take responsibility for their actions. Has the internet forums gotten to the point where people think that if you don’t have to stand up for your opinion it doesn’t matter what you publish?

When I was reading some of the comments I felt really embarrassed because of the content both Swedish and Norwegian people had in their discussion. None of the countries showed professionalism and they both had verbally fights with each other. This is as I see it a giant wakeup call, why is it like this? Would we yell this out loud to each other faces?

In this film, a norwegian politician talks about just this, so take a look.

Did we actually learn how to write a objective comment online trough our years with school? I know I didn’t. I think it is remarkable that this side of internet safety is so little represented in the schools today. It is the teacher’s responsibility to teach the kids how important it is to act with care for other human beings online. Especially what rules we have to follow and how to act as a member of the society.

I hope some teachers read my post, and that other people can talk and discuss the problem. It will not dissapear by itself.
